Be aware of alligators at Lake Worth

Posted May 26, 2010

An alligator recently has been spotted in Lake Worth. A Deputy from Forth Worth’s Lake Patrol Office was sent to the area of the sighting to assess the situation.  Alligators are common in the Lake, and this is not an usual occurrence.  However, should the need arise, proper steps will be taken to remove the animal from Lake Worth.

Public safety is the utmost priority in the City of Fort Worth. In order to ensure you can enjoy beautiful Lake Worth in the safest manner, Texas Parks and Wildlife and the City of Fort Worth recommend the following precautions:

  • Never feed alligators
  • Avoid swimming and other water activities in areas with large alligators
  • Swim only during daylight hours
  • Do not dispose of fish scraps in the water
  • Closely supervise small children in and around water
  • Do not allow pets to swim, exercise or drink in waters where alligators may be found
  • If you hear an alligator hiss, move away. You are too close.

If you do spot an alligator, please use the following contacts:
