Feeding the Homeless
Emergency Shelters in Tarrant County do an excellent job of providing adequate, nutritious and free meals every day for our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness.
There are many volunteers in our community who want to show their care and compassion for people who are homeless. Passing out food (and clothing) on the streets can waste food, duplicate efforts and create problems you might not see when you drive away. Many well-meaning volunteers have unknowingly created health, safety and litter problems for people who are homeless as well as our parks and neighborhoods.
Emergency shelters and homeless services organizations in Tarrant County need and welcome volunteers to help feed, clothe, mentor and support people who are homeless so, if you are passionate about the issue of homelessness and want to help make it “rare, short-term and non-recurring,” know that your passion, concern and energy are needed at the shelters, at food pantries and organizations like Meals on Wheels.
